The Free Women
A tribute to Camille Claudel, the masterful sculptress whose genius transcended her role as Rodin's muse and lover. Born in the 1880s, Claudel sculpted in an era when society dismissed women's art out of hand regardless of its brilliance. Today, her work is celebrated for its fluid forms and technical mastery.
The Free Women series, a collection of eight bronze figures, embodies a woman’s strength, humility, and power. Each figure holds a saw blade – a symbol of preservation and survival, its jagged edge representing the weight women bear and roughness of life. Their faces blend futuristic and classical elements, making them timeless beings moving through the world in their highest form.
Humor weaves through these pieces as they reimagine historic sculptures. Rodin's Thinker is transformed into a woman contemplating Mother Earth, seated upon the planet itself. Bourdelle's Hercules the Archer is reborn as a powerful goddess.
